Onward and UP North Part 2

You can't believe how long it takes to clean up these pictures and then download them to this blog.  Of course I get distracted watching TV....

Anyway, where was I?

Oh yes, the Arch Rock.  It was pretty darn chilly by this time and I was glad I had changed into my jeans before the trip.  Could've used a sweat shirt too.  Guess we've gotten used to the FL weather, cool, warm, hot and sauna like.

We climbed back into our 'carriage' and continued on the tour.  We passed the Governor's vacation mansion,  which costs a small fortune in upkeep and is only used 2 - 3 weeks out of the year.
Is the Governor here?
Then passed the Grand Hotel, with over 300 rooms, and no two decorated the same.  Our guide told us it took 700 men 93 days to build the hotel back in the day.  No permits or inspections needed....prices for rooms today start at $300 a night.  Don't know how true any of that is just passing it on.

After the tour we stopped in a little Bar & Grill for some lunch and then walked around a bit killing time.

Another interesting fact we found out on our tour that there are over several hundred lilac bushes on the island.  So the lilac is a common theme throughout.

Wonder if it smells like lilacs inside.

Still raining

Very quaint, don't ya think?
Finally back to the ferry, just waiting for our ride back across the straits.  At least there were heat lamps although they didn't give off much warmth.

So long Mackinac Island

Kicking up a bit of spray, good thing we were inside.
We got back to the trailer and turned on our little fireplace and had some hot coffee and a cinnamon twist.  A nice end to an eventful day.
